Description

FAST, SAFE, COMFORTABLE AND EYE-CATCHING

The concept behind Saphira was to develop a cruising catamaran that could average at least 250 nautical miles a day safely, when sailed offshore by a small crew. She’s also fast – speeds over 20 knots are not uncommon. Her long, narrow hulls and high bridge deck clearance make for a comfortable ride. Saphira has averaged 265 miles a day in its seven seasons of cruising from Rhode Island to the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, up the west coast of Central America to San Diego, and out to French Polynesia.

The owners, who were integral to and deeply involved in the design process, have approximately 175,000 miles of sailing history, including a circumnavigation during the 1980s that rounded Cape Horn and ventured north of Spitzbergen/Svalbard in the Arctic. Their experience is apparent in the big and small details that make Saphira easy to handle and, equally important, a joy to live on.

The 70’ hulls are mainly for speed and sea-kindliness, not space. The beam, weight and sail area are similar to a performance cat in the 55’ to 60’ range. Everywhere Saphira goes, she attracts attention and invites inquiries about her innovative design. Saphira has covered approximately 25,000 miles over her seven seasons and is ready to continue cruising the oceans with an extensive list of equipment and spares.

SAPHIRA is back in the Atlantic and will arrive in Rhode Island in early June, 2025.
